About this service:

If you are registered with a Nottingham City GP and are eligible for chiropody/podiatry services, you will still be able to access podiatry/chiropody services through referral by your GP, HealthCare Professional or Self-referral.

Podiatry/chiropody services are available to patients of all ages and will:

• Provide education and awareness to encourage patients to be able to look after their own feet and maintain good foot health

• Provide advice and support to help prevent falls and maintain mobility and independence

• Assess, monitor and treat patients with long term conditions that may affect their mobility and independence

• Help with structural abnormalities of the foot and lower limb which affect gait and foot function

• Provide orthotics (insoles) and footwear advice and appropriate health education information

• Try to prevent complications where deterioration is likely to lead to ulceration or significant effect on mobility or general health

• Reduce corns and callus, help with thickened and painful toe nails and padding to help painful toe deformities

• Provide minor operations routinely carried out in the community to treat painful toenail conditions such as involuted, thickened and ingrown toenails, under local anaestheic

• Provide surgical treatment of foot pain and disability, including appropriate post-operative care.

The service will not provide:
• An annual diabetic foot check (your GP or hospital will provide this)

• Treatment for verrucae where over the counter treatments have not been tried. Only verrucae which are extremely painful and have been resistant to over the counter treatments should be considered. In most cases verrucae will resolve over time and do not always require treatment.
